While we are not rehearsing or holding a concert in Spring 2021, we are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to begin rehearsals in September 2021 in preparation for a December 2021 Concert. We are also taking steps to plan our long-anticipated Messiah concert for April 2022. Stay tuned here for information as it becomes available.
In the meantime, please continue to shop - we have dvd's, cookbooks, and more available for purchase.
CRYSTAL COAST CHORAL SOCIETY NAMES 2021 SCHOLARSHIP WINNER
The recipient of the Crystal Coast Choral Society’s (CCCS) Student Scholarship Award for 2021 is Cayla McDonald from Richlands in Onslow County. Scholarship applicants must have a background in music activities and demonstrate intent to major in music performance, education, or therapy at an accredited college, university, or community college. Awarding scholarships fulfills the mission of the Crystal Coast Choral Society to foster future musicians in the community it serves.
Cayla is a senior at Richlands High School with an instrumental music background. She played clarinet in the Richlands High School Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Marching Band, and also led the Marching Band as Drum Major. Along with clarinet, she is learning to play the piano in high school piano class. Outside of school, Cayla works part-time at Napoli’s Pizzeria in Richlands.
In addition to high school academic and musical pursuits, Cayla plays clarinet in the Onslow County Schools All County Concert Band, and was a member of the UNC Pembroke Honors Band for All District, All County, which brings the best 200 high school students in the region to UNC Pembroke.
Cayla also placed Ninth Chair Clarinet in the North Carolina Bandmaster’s Association (NCBA) All District Band for the Eastern District of North Carolina, which encompasses 30 counties from Interstate 95 to the North Carolina coast. Although Covid-19 restrictions limited in-person activities over the last year, she was able to participate virtually to accomplish her musical goals.
Cayla comes from a musical family, with her mother and several aunts and uncles all alumni of the Richlands High School Marching Band or Choir. She will attend Western Carolina University (WCU) in the fall, with a major in Music Education for Elementary Education, and a minor in Special Education. She also plans to play clarinet in the WCU Pride of the Mountains Marching Band.
This year’s student scholarship is awarded in memory of Dr. Richard Scroggs. Dr. Scroggs was a long-time financial and physical supporter of the CCCS, as well as the spouse of a long-serving chorus member.
Scholarship application information is provided each year to high schools in Onslow and Carteret Counties and Camp Lejeune. Further information can be found by contacting Mr. Jerry Albright at 252-354-1962 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The CCCS will resume weekly rehearsals, with Covid safety protocols, on September 7, 2021. Christmas concert dates are tentatively set for December 12 and 19, 2021. The complete Handel’s Messiah concert will be presented on April 24, 2022.
